  1) What are the purpose of trailers?

  • The purpose of a trailer is to attract the audiences attention and claim their interest in order for the movie to be successful.
  • In order for the movie to be successful the trailer must first be popular and receive as many views as it possibly can.
  • It is also to sell the product to the audience before they go to watch the movie. It's to make the audiences want to watch the movie.
2) How do the audiences watch the trailers?

Audiences can watch trailers in various different ways. They can watch it by:
  • Youtube
  • Internet Advertisement's
  • Trailers added in the cinema before the movie starts
  • On the go technology
  • Social Network

3) Where do audiences go and what type of platforms do the audiences use to watch trailers? How do the audiences engage with the trailer?
  • Audiences mostly go to the internet to find trailers such as youtube or can sometimes see them when they go to the cinema to watch a movie but are previously presented with various trailers before their movie starts.
  • The audiences can engage with the trailers by sharing it to their friends or even talking about it (word of mouth), in order to increase the trailers popularity.

4) What is the relationship between exhibition platforms for trailers and audiences? Are certain platforms for certains types of audiences?
  • Social networking - for teenagers and above
  • Cinema - for an older range
  • Youtube - for all ages ( a wide range)
  • Blink Box
  • Netflix
  • Websites for trailers - younger adults

5) How do institutions encourage audiences to investigate a films details?

  • Sometimes the institutions will have games for the audiences to be involved with through the trailers the information will be shown. The more engaged they feel with the film, the more the audiences will want to watch the films.
  • Sometimes they will have competitions. If they do that means that there is benefits for both the film institution and for the audiences to receive something out of helping out the institution with their popularity.
  • They will put the dates of the films release on the trailers so that the audience can know when they are able to watch the movie.
  • Sometimes the trailers have the website to more information about the movie. They will try and make the website as interesting as possible.
6) Explain the role of social media for trailers.
  • The media has positive and negative sides to it for the trailers.
Positive:

what's positive is that when the trailer is released the institution will not have to do as much advertising for the trailers to become popular, because of the social media on the internet it means that the trailers can be shared and viewed world wide much faster. Meaning that the movie can become extremely popular before it is released on screen in the cinema.
They reach a mass audience in shorter amount of time.
Negative:
What's negative is that by the advertisements and the release of the trailers being world wide and spread on the internet, it means that younger children that are not supposedly allowed to watch such trailer are being exposed to them.
Children are being exposed to the trailers not meant for them.

7) Imagine trailers could be exhibited via social media, what impact would this have on audiences and the institutions?

  • If it's exhibited through social media it means that it's easier for the product to reach wider range of audiences.
  • The product would be advertised much fast than usual.
  • The product would go viral on the social media meaning that the movie will be successful.
  • The younger generation will be exposed to the trailer meaning that the institution's mass audience will rapidly grow.
  • It also means that the institution will become popular for the product and for the future.
8) How has the exhibitions of trailers changed over time?

  • They have become more accessible.
  • There's is more exposures to the trailers through different platforms.
  • The audiences have become the advertisers rather then the institution doing it all themselves.
  •  They are able to attract more amounts of audiences.
9) How are trailers rated and regulated? What institution is responsible for rating trailers? How is this different from the whole film?

  • The trailers are rated universal due to the institution wanting a huge range of mass audiences leading to the movie becoming popular and the most asked for.
  • Trailers are not rated due to the fact that they are all rated universal , exposing the audiences to the institutions product no matter the age.
  • Trailers are different from the whole film because trailers have universal ratings but when it actually comes to the film they have age ratings. They would not let just any age watch the movie.
  • Also trailers are a really short version of parts of the movie put together to make sense but yet leave enigmas.

10) How does the rating of the film trailers affect a range of audiences?

  • If the film trailers have specific ratings it means that the product will not gain much popularity and it means that it will not be successful
  • By making the trailers universal it means everyone can watch it and make a buzz out of the movie.
  • The popular it is the more the audience will want to get involved in advertising and sharing through social media and the internet.
  • If it's universally rated it means that the world is involved in making the movie popular.
11) Identify or explain any other issue you think are important about exhibition of film trailers.

  • Because trailers are rated universal it means that smaller children are exposed to them and they could be inappropriate.
  • If the trailer is really bad but the movie is really good it stops the film from reach high goals and achievements.
